More Snow!! (And Birds)

We had quite a bit of snow today, the ground is again covered. In a few days it will melt though. Yesterday there were quite a few birds at the feeders (and there probably will be today also); Purple Finches, Dark-eyed Juncos, Pine Siskin, of course chickadees, Hairy Woodpecker and even an American Tree Sparrow.
Here are some pictures I took over the last couple days. Enjoy!

Common Redpoll
We discovered a chipmunk sticking around the house (and probably living under the garage) who comes to the bird feeders often. I used our Lone Pine Mammal book to identify it, it was between Least and Eastern Chipmunk. The Least has more stripes on it's face, so this was a Eastern.

There were many Purple Finches singing in the trees, mostly males actually.

The juncos are here to stay now! There are about twenty maybe coming to our feeders.

And, one of my favorite right now, the American Tree Sparrow! I love the rufous cap and back.

A Hair Woodpecker came momentarily to the tree.

I was able to get some video of this Purple Finch, the chickadee and juncos.

  1. Great pictures! I love chipmunks; we don't see them in NM but when we travel to Boston we see them. The Purple Finches look rather like the Cassin's Finches here, who are sticking around longer than expected but I'm not complaining! It is funny to think that you still have snow up in Canada! Here the highest temperatures have been 80 or so (Fahrienheit)!

    1. Thanks! I do to! It's strange, birds we might see in the summer, are where you live in the Winter. All us Canadians are like "The finches are coming back!" and you are like "The finches are leaving" Haha.
Whoah!! That's warm! I think we've had up to maybe 15 C, but it's still going to to like -10 or -15 C. The snow will melt soon.
