Feathers on Friday

A couple days ago we had a huge flock of nighthawks fly over our house, I estimated about 500 or more. At first I didn't know what they were, I thought they were swallows until I figured it out.

Here is a quite heavily cropped picture of one of the nighthawks, the distinctive wing bars give it away.

Here's a zoomed out picture of most of the flock.

A few days after we spotted a nighthawk sitting in a tree in our yard in the evening. We got some good pictures.

Thanks to Prairie Birder's Feathers on Friday prompt.

  1. Great shots! They are so pretty! Rarely do we get to see them up close.
