Note: My friends took this picture when we were cottaging together.

Back home

After a month of vacation in Ontario we are finally back to Winnipeg. A Song Sparrow is hanging around our feeder. And a chipmunk is living under our deck, he has even come to the platform feeder. Unfortunately chipmunks digging under your house isn't very good, so we''l probably have to trap him and release him somewhere else. I made some Bark Butter (see recipe page) for my new Bark Butter feeder I made. I got some pictures hummingbirds at some flowers. But the most exciting news is that the Cooper's Hawk young are still here, I saw them and heard them. I saw three. I have probably forgotten something I wanted to say but anything I forget will come in a new post.

Ontario - 2013 - Final Day

My Bark Butter feeder design
We are leaving tomorrow and soon will be back in Winnipeg. We have made two nice cedar bluebird houses with a predator guard and hinge, a pine American Kestrel box with a hinge, its all packed up in the van and we will assemble it when we get home, and a robin or barn swallow or phoebe nesting shelf while we were here. I also made a really quick Bark Butter feeder too. There will be nails for perches which you can also put oranges on for orioles. I'll nail the back onto a tree. We are taking home a bird feeder from.

Birds at the bird bath

The homemade birdbath we made is starting to be a hit. We got a sink pedestal and a broken heated birdbath from the thrift store and made a beautiful birdbath. We have seen lots of Mourning Doves at it taking a drink then turning around and let their tails sit in the water. We have seen a Cardinal in the birdbath, and even an Eastern Kingbird hanging about. A grackle and some Blue Jays went in today, I got some good pictures of  the grackle.

Ontario - 2013 - Week Four

This is our last week in Ontario, then we'll head back to Winnipeg. There has been a Red-bellied Woodpecker hanging around the suet here. We don't get these in Winnipeg so it was exiting.

My brothers went canoeing in Hamilton when I was camping with my friend. They saw swans, the only Bald Eagle family that lives in Hamilton, shorebirds, a Red-tailed Hawk, a Great Egret and a Great-blue Heron.

My brother has been getting some good pictures of birds too.

When they were canoeing they found swan feathers almost a foot and half long!

I am pretty sure there was some Merlins living at the lake where I was camping.
