Snowy Egret in Winnipeg!

Sorry, I haven't been getting very many posts out, I have loads of bird pictures to organize still.
A Snowy Egret was found in Winnipeg a week or two ago. On eBird it says it's the only Snowy Egret seen inside of Winnipeg. We went to try and see it, and we did see it! It was a lifer for us too! It is still around Winnipeg.

Here are the pictures we got.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more posts, which I hopefully get out soon. I say that too much, because I almost never get it out soon.... But still! Stay tuned. :)

Weekly What Bird Wednesday

If you would like to join me for my W.W.B.W. leave a guess in the comments below or make your own weekly what bird post.

Here is this weeks, sorry for being late, and for not doing one last week. This picture is from inside a wolf enclosure at the International Wolf Centre, which we went to in Minnesota. Leave your guess of what bird it is in the comments!

Can you guess?
For last weeks post there were several birds, a Ring-necked Duck or two, a Mallard, a few geese, a Double-crested Cormorant, a gull, possibly a Lesser Scaup, and one or two others which I can't tell what they are.

Funny Squirrel Pictures

And now for the randomest post I have ever done! :D :D :D

Just for the fun of it; some silly squirrel and chipmunk photos I have taken. Not very birdy, but still funny!

Here's a chipmunk stuffing his face with food, that seems to be what they do best.

I really like this photo I got of a Chipmunk running. It makes me laugh every time I see it.

The squirrel takes too big of bite. A whole pine cone! At least there's lots of Vitamin C!

"Nom nom nom. Bird seed is yummy"
By the looks of his face it looks like he knows he's not supposed to be taking the bird seed; stuffing as much of it into his mouth as he can.
"I'm not taking anything."

And that's all!

UPDATE: That's not all! I forgot about these two we took in Ontario a while ago.

Weekly What Bird Wednesday

If you would like to join me for my W.W.B.W. leave a guess in the comments below or make your own weekly what bird post.

We have biked to Silver Springs park several times, a park which used to be a quarry.  There is lots of waterfowl and shorebirds there, and we have seen some pretty good birds there.

How many different species of birds can you spot in this photo?

At Silver Springs Park. Leave your guesses in the comments!

Last weeks was nearly impossible from the quality of the photo, it was a Vesper's Sparrow!

Spring Birding - Part 3

Sorry for taking so long. I meant to make this so long ago. I have pictures from almost a month ago.
I can hardly believe how late it is into migration already. In a few days the trees turned green, more warblers will be around, sparrows, waterfowl, shorebirds. So much! I can't believe it! I have finally caught up on organizing my bird photos so I should be able to get a few more posts out quickly.

I have been biking quite a lot the past month, so, with out further ado, my bird photos since near the beginning of April!

American Robin

Mallards and Killdeer
Yellowrumps have been around awhile, as well as kinglets. Today we saw our first Palm Warbler

One highlight was a Oregon Junco! They are rare here, but still can be seen. That was a treat!

And our dog apparently likes the water in the bird bath.

My brother and sister's violin teacher has a cute little dog that I couldn't leave out.

Downy Woodpecker
I also enjoy just photographing things other than birds. Like this moss clump on the forest floor.

After some rainy days we had like fifty robins on our lawn.

Yellowrumps come to our suet sometimes, this is a bright male and a junco.

There is a nice tree out the back of our road that is quite nice especially at sunset. It is a single tree beside the highway. William named it the Soller-Tree (the name of a hedgehog from the series Redwall) because it is a solitary tree.

We often bike to the Red River floodway, where Hooded Mergansers are quite common.

Great Canadian Birdathon

I am participating in the Great Canadian Birdathon, which is a fundraiser for bird conservation and research.
A Birdathon is where you go out for a day in May, for up to 24 hours, and see as many birds as you can. You can register on their webpage here. This is my first Birdathon, you can see my page here.

I joined the Manitoba Breeding Bird Atlas team, which means the money I raise will go to them. The MB Bird Atlas is a survey that went on for five years, engaging citizens in documenting the distribution and abundance of the breeding birds in Manitoba. I took part in the MB Bird Atlas and had a lot of fun doing it. It ended last year.

I will choose a day later in May, when there are lots of warblers and shorebirds. I will probably go to Oak Hammock Marsh, which is one of my favorite birding spots. I am sure I will make a blog post once I have done it, so don't forget to check back.

Weekly What Bird Wednesday

If you would like to join me for my W.W.B.W. leave a guess in the comments below or make your own weekly what bird post.

I went out biking this morning and saw quite a few birds, and got some pretty fantastic photos of a Red-winged Blackbird! I also saw and heard this bird, I've only seen it once or twice before. This one will be really hard, especially because you can't zoom in on the photo too much, I was thinking of cropping it but I decided not to and see how you did.

For last weeks, BirdBoy guessed it right on his second try, Swamp Sparrow! I discovered that there are actually a lot of them in a field near our house.

Feathers on Friday

Here is my Fof. We have a big marshy thick brush place (I don't know how else to explain it) with standing water far behind our house. It's only really wet in the spring though, it makes a really awesome swamp habitat, which hosts loads and loads of blackbirds right now. There is also a lifer for me (which you'll figure out about next week, when I reveal the Weekly What Bird).
There are Brown-headed Cowbirds, Brewer's Blackbirds, grackles, even Rusty Blackbirds, and tonnes of Red-winged Blackbirds.

Here is a few blackbirds, mostly Brewer's I think, but there is at least one Rusty in this picture I believe.
